NAHU President Mike Embry
will open the January 17th program
“Looking forward in 2018”
Michael Embry, president of Southfield-based Comprehensive Benefits Inc., was named president of the National Association of Health Underwriters for the 2017-2018 year at its recent annual meeting in Orlando.
“(Mike) has consistently shown impeccable leadership and commitment in serving our members. He is an incredibly passionate individual and he has worked hard to make sure agents and brokers are able to continue assisting their clients in this new health insurance marketplace,” Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO, said in a statement.
In his acceptance statement, Embry said he would reinforce NAHU’s mission to educate consumers and lawmakers about the value that health insurance agents and brokers bring to the health care system. He also wants to increase NAHU members’ ability to better serve consumers.
Embry has worked in the health insurance industry for 33 years, including senior account director of Comerica Insurance Services Inc. He purchased the practice in 2014, renamed it Comprehensive Benefits, and focuses on small group benefits, midsize group benefits, worksite voluntary benefits and small and midsize self-funded plans.

Prior to joining Paramount Preferred Solutions, he directed business consulting practices, with significant P&L responsibility, for more than 20 years in the healthcare services, financial services, business services, and telecommunications industries.Peter knows how to evaluate best case strategies to resolve complex business risk and cost challenges, and proactively communicate solutions to clients of all sizes.
Peter has earned a B.S.B.A. degree from The Ohio State University, Columbus, and an M.B.A from The Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. Peter has also taught sales and marketing courses and seminars at several local universities and has served on the Board of several local and national organizations and charities.
Ray DeAngelis is an accomplished and passionate Health-Care professional with a strong background in Operations, Sales Management and Business Development, specifically in IT, Employee Group Insurance and Hospital systems that’s provided him a “behind the scene” pulse on the rising costs of healthcare, as well as an understanding the vital role today’s technology will play in improving medical outcomes and more affordability. Understanding only too well the challenges that face all stakeholders in the Healthcare Insurance sector, Ray continues to seek out as well as support innovative ways that will continue to drive down health care cost that threatens affordable care for those who need it most.
Ray holds an B.A. in Business Management from Malone University in Canton, and currently serves in the role of Regional Physician Relations for the ProMedica hospital system where he works closely with the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth and Akron General, and most recently, served as Director of Business Development and Network Growth at the MetroHealth System.
